I occasionally amble over to Rob Brezsny’s Free Will Astrology for a more interesting horoscope than those that come alongside crosswords, and today it was more worth it than ever.
Now please drink in this fresh truth from Nigerian writer Ben Okri: “Beware of the stories you read or tell; subtly, at night, beneath the waters of consciousness, they are altering your world.”
I believe this. I believe that what we say, and what we do, and what we think about all matter, even the little things. We’re influenced by what surrounds us, and by ourselves to the extent that we have control over where we go and who we go with.
I believe gossip is damaging to the soul and reality television is damaging to the mind, etc., and how we choose to spend our time goes farther than those individual minutes. I’m the first to admit that I don’t come close to meeting my own expectations here; but finding it so well expressed makes it inspiring anew. First step: replacing movie/TV time tonight with a trip to the library. I’m gonna find me something by Ben Okri.
